Comments Off on October Events

We have a busy October coming up! Join us in supporting these great organizations and celebrating Halloween!

Sat Oct 1 4pm
3rd Annual NOLA BlueDoo Run

The NOLA Bluedoo Party/Walk/Run is a two-mile competitive race, held in conjunction with the New Orleans Track Club (NOTC), which takes walkers and runners on a tour across Tulane University’s beautiful Uptown campus. In fact, it is part of the NOTC’s 2016 Grand Prix Race Circuit. Proceeds from donations, sponsorships, auction/parade of prizes, and party passes benefit Dr. Oliver Sartor’s Prostate Cancer Research Fund at Tulane Cancer Center.

But you don’t have to walk or run in order to enjoy the event! Bluedoo is also a party – a celebration of prostate cancer survivorship for the whole family – with plenty of great food, New Orleans-style entertainment, costuming in blue (the color of prostate cancer awareness), a Kids’ Tent, a Survivor Tent, and more!

Yoga mat as a skirt? Recycled Fashion Show turns everyday items into wearable art

By Sue Strachan, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune on February 22, 2016 at 7:32 AM

While some people may see just a shower curtain, bean-bag chair or yoga mat, others recognize the potential to take the ordinary and make it into something unique.  Thirty-three designers did just that for the seventh annual  Bridge House/Grace House Recycled Fashion Show, presented by Entergy, Sunday (Feb. 21) at Rock ‘n’ Bowl.

A coat became dress, skirt into dress, and a yoga mat molded as a skirt, while part of a bean-bag chair was converted into knapsack, sweaters reconstructed, and shower curtains revamped as both a cape and shirt. No corner of the Bridge House Thrift Shop was left untouched by designers Thayer Abigael, Sonya Adams and Sloan Duet, C. Blue Apffel, Vincent Avila, Dawn Bagala, Danielle Brumbaugh, Colleen Cure, Jaelynn Daigrepont, Jann Darsie, Kathryn Fisher, Callie Habrun, Erin Haindle, Darlene Hargreaves, Dena Hebert, Maureen Iverson, Laurie Jones, Gillian Knight and Lee White, Suzy Lake, Maureen Iverson, Carlisa Pridgen, Alisha Rockweiler, Arlene Rome, Shar Kiltz, Barbara Meehan, Jo Ann Minor, Tiffany Truxillo, Ann-Marie Turgeon, Lennie Unbehagen, Deja Weathers, Alana Wood, and Gabrielle Wood.

Their looks — designers could show two — were showcased by models varying ages, who strode down the red carpet runway accompanied by commentary from emcees Lauren “Fleurty Girl” LeBlanc and Andrew Ward. Other diversions at the event included a performance from the Rolling Elvi Jailhouse Rockers, and the Pussyfooters helped with the silent auction and raffle for a trip to Navarre Beach, Fla.

Proceeds benefit Bridge House/Grace House, which provides long-term residential, gender specific treatment to men and women who are dependent on alcohol or drugs.
